Mabry Mill is a wonderful place to step back in time and explore Appalachian life in the early 1900s. The water powered mill, woodworking shop, and blacksmith shop give visitors a view into the lives of this isolated mountain community.
Ed and Lizzie Mabry built this mill around 1905 to support the needs of their neighbors. People who lived here at that time were a day's journey from the nearest town. If something needed done they had to rely on themselves or the skills of their neighbors. The mill provided ground corn, lumber, and blacksmithing services.
Today, you can explore the history of the area. Watch the water turn the big water wheel to power the mill. Stop by a demonstration of blacksmithing, woodworking, crafting, or other cultural demonstration through the summer. Relax and listen to traditional music. Or grab our activity brochure and search for clues of how Ed and Lizzie Mabry used this mill to provide for their community.
However you choose to spend your time at Mabry Mill, you are sure to have fun.
