5-21-2012 Eleven New TRACK Trails Open in One Day To celebrate National Kids to Parks Day (May 19th), the Kids in Parks program opened 11 new TRACK Trails in 3 different states, doubling the size of our program in one day.
12-20-2011 Kids in Parks receives grant to build 2 new TRACK Trails on the Parkway The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s Kids in Parks Program received a $15,500 Active Trails Grant from the National Park Foundation to help build 2 new TRACK Trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Funding for the projects will be provided by the National Park Foundation’s Active Trails Grant Program, a nationwide program designed to promote healthy lifestyles while protecting and enhancing our National Parks’ trail resources.
12-20-2011 Kids in Parks Receives 701,000 Grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation In 2008, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the Blue Ridge Parkway partnered with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation to form the Kids in Parks initiative. With the initial investment of 204,000, the Kids in Parks program sprung to life and became a huge success. We have installed more than 8 TRACK Trails, brought more than 35 partners together, including multiple state, federal and local agencies, and linked our public lands to each other and to the kids and families of our communities.
12-20-2011 Kids in Parks Opens their first TRACK Trail in a Virginia State Park Claytor Lake State Park The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s Kids in Parks program celebrated the grand opening of their 9th TRACK Trail on July 23rd at Claytor Lake State Park in Dublin, Virginia. This new TRACK Trail links Claytor Lake State Park and Virginia’s State Parks to the Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina State Parks, and our network of TRACK Trail locations.
12-20-2011 Kids in Parks in South Dakota? Kids in Parks will be opening its next TRACK Trail in South Dakota - yes, South Dakota! Our Kids in Parks program will be taking the national stage at the 2011 National Association of State Park Directors conference, held September 6-9 at Custer State Park. In conjunction with our presentation about our TRACK Trails program to the state park directors from across the country, our 10th TRACK Trail will be unveiled.
12-20-2011 Buncombe County High School Disc Golf League Each player was given a brand new disc and earned points for their school just for playing; and, the Top 9 players earned bonus points for their teams for finishing in the top 1/3 of the field.
