Trail TRACKers of the Month - Sage and Theo

by June 20, 2021

We are so proud of our Trail TRACKers, and that's why we like to recognize those who go out of their way to explore our trails. Each month, we honor at least one of these special explorers with the title of Trail TRACKer (or TRACKers) of the Month.

Meet Trail TRACKers of the Month Sage and Theo!

What's your favorite TRACK Trail? Why?

"Crowders Mountain because we got to climb on all the rocks, and part of the trail actually went over the boulders and it felt like we were rock climbing."

What's your favorite TRACK Trail brochure adventure?

"McDowell Nature Preserve, Birds of the Piedmont. We enjoy looking for birds whether we are at the coast like Carolina Beach State Park or closer to our home at the McDowell Nature Preserve. We saw an eagles' nest on a recent hike in Florida, and an osprey's nest on a hike in SC. Theo just did a school project about eagles, another project about chickens, and his class is incubating chicken eggs that will hatch next week. We also have a bird's nest on our front porch with songbirds about to hatch."

What's the most exciting wildlife you've ever seen on a TRACK Trail?

"We saw alligators, blue herons, sandpipers, egrets & pelicans at Huntington Beach State Park. We also saw a bear cub in a tree at Smoky Mountains National Park. On our neighborhood trail, we have seen a beaver, copperhead snake, ducks, rabbits, hawks, deer, fish, geckos, turtles, and have heard coyotes. These aren't TRACK trails, but we haven't really seen much wildlife on the TRACK trails yet. We will keep trying!"

What's the longest hike you've ever done?

"We hiked 11.3 miles at Hanging Rock State Park."

What is the coolest trail experience you've ever had?

"Moore's Cove Falls Trail in Pisgah National Forest. We enjoyed standing under the waterfall & feeling the waterfall onto our shoulders. We also enjoyed playing in the river and jumping from rock to rock at South Mountains State Park."

If you could go for a hike anywhere in the world, where would it be?

"We are looking forward to experiencing some of the Blue Ridge Parkway Track trails soon, and also the Grand Canyon and other national parks."

Do you have any hiking tips for other Trail TRACKers?

"Getting outdoors is a great family time activity. It's great exercise, calming to everyone & a lot of fun to play in the woods & creeks."
