Trail TRACKer of the Month - Liesl

by January 24, 2022

We are so proud of our Trail TRACKers, and that's why we like to recognize those who go out of their way to explore our trails. Each month, we honor at least one of these special explorers with the title of Trail TRACKer (or TRACKers) of the Month.

Meet Trail TRACKer of the Month Liesl!

What's your favorite TRACK Trail? Why?

"The Jordan Lake State Recreation Area TRACK Trail is my favorite because it's closest and I can hike there any day and because it's short we can go around the loop twice!"

What's your favorite TRACK Trail brochure adventure?

"The best brochure is Animal Athletes because I like to Frog Jump and Rabbit Run down the trail really fast."

What's the most exciting wildlife you've ever seen on a TRACK Trail?

"Once we saw a momma and baby deer!"

What's the longest hike you've ever done?

"6.5 miles."

What is the coolest trail experience you've ever had?

"Once when we first moved to NC, our family was supposed to go hiking but it started raining when we got to the trailhead. We moved from the Sonoran Desert and it doesn't rain a lot there except during a monsoon, so the rain was exciting. But, I thought my mom and dad would say we couldn't go on our hike. Instead, my mom brought rain clothes for everyone! Hiking in the rainy forest was so cool! The rain comes from the sky and off of the leaves in big drips and it made everything look even more green. Also, I caught lots of frogs!"

If you could go for a hike anywhere in the world, where would it be?

"If I could go for a hike anywhere I would go to Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania."

Do you have any hiking tips for other Trail TRACKers?

"Always bring water with you on hikes even when they're short."
