Kids in Parks – Program Assistant

Part Time

Reports to the Kids in Parks Director

Organization Description

Kids in Parks is an award-winning program of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. Founded in 2008 with the mission of connecting kids and families to the outdoors, KIP has built a national network of self-guided TRACK Trails that have been explored millions of times by young adventurers. From our headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina, KIP is working to build a healthier, more connected future for kids and public lands across the country.

 

Position Description

The Program Assistant will be responsible for managing TRACK Trail registrations, coordinating prize fulfillment (packaging and shipping), maintaining inventory, and assisting with partner and volunteer communications. The ideal candidate is proficient in Microsoft Office; Google Workspace ecosystem; demonstrates strong communication, planning, and organizational skills; and is adept in file management. The candidate will work in the program’s Asheville office.

Specific Responsibilities

The Program Assistant will be tasked with overseeing TRACK Trail registration processes, coordinating the fulfillment of prizes, managing inventory control, and facilitating communications with partners and volunteers. The Program Assistant’s main job duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Reviewing TRACK Trail registration forms and sharing relevant insights with the Director and Associate Director
  • Preparing and shipping prizes to participants who register their TRACK Trail adventures
  • Conducting quarterly inventory to track prizes and program materials
  • Coordinating with the Associate Director and vendors to ensure timely shipment of orders to new and existing TRACK Trail partners
  • Attending events associated with Kids in Parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, including: National TRACK Trails Day, NPS Week, National Trails Day, National Park Rx Day, etc.
  • Communicating with volunteers and supplying TRACK Trail materials as needed
  • Maintaining project files, ensuring proper organization, retention, and accessibility standards are met
  • Processing and fulfilling merchandise orders
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications Required

  • Relevant experience or degree related to this position 
  • Valid drivers license and personal vehicle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in the Google Workspace ecosystem (Gmail, Google Drive)
  • Ability to learn new software and systems as needed
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members  and volunteers
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills 
  • Proficiency in file management and keeping detailed records
  • Ability to coordinate shipping and fulfillment logistics with vendors and internal teams
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, yet comfortable working effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check

 

PAY INFORMATION 

$15/hour, 20 hours per week.
