PLEASE NOTE: HAW RIVER STATE PARK IS OPEN 8AM TO 5PM MON-FRI. The park is closed most state holidays. Please call the park office (336-342-6163) to find out about extended hours for some weekends. Please check in at the park office upon arrival.

Just north of Greensboro, Haw River State Park Nature Trail Disc Golf Course is an excellent course for beginning disc golfers. The 9 holes are fairly short in length, and offer a combination of open and wooded shots, uphills, downhills, right, and left turns. The course traverses woodland and riparian habitats and features scenic views of the lake and many opportunities to spot interesting plants and wildlife. Located near the headwaters of the Haw River, The Haw River State Park and Summit Environmental Education Center is situated on nearly 300 acres of piedmont forest, fields, wetlands, and uplands. As land acquisition continues and Haw River State Park grows and develops the park will be able to provide additional resource protection of the Haw River Corridor and recreational opportunities for park visitors. The park hopes to include picnicking, camping, and hiking opportunities in the future. The Haw River Corridor is also a proposed route for the Mountains to Sea Trail.

Haw River State Park: Tree Love Scorecard

Trail length:
1.00 mile
When disc golfers hit a tree with their disc and get a favorable bounce, they call that "Tree Love". Use the pictures on this scorecard to identify a few of the trees found here at Haw River State Park. Every time you hit a tree with your frisbee, take a second to try to identify it. Look at its bark, leaf shape and other identifying features. Soon, identifying trees will be as easy as making a five foot putt.
