The Nelson County TRACK Trail is located on the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail that begins at the Depot on Patrick Henry Highway (Route 151) and continues for 7 miles along sections of the Piney and Tye Rivers. The TRACK Trail portion of the trail is the 1.8-mile long section (one-way) located between the Depot and the road crossing at Roses Mill Road (SR 674).
The Nelson County TRACK Trail has four self-guided brochures that visitors to the trail can use to connect with the natural, cultural and historical resources found along the trail. Whether learning about the Birds of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to identifying the Need for Trees, to discovering Nature’s Relationships, the self-guided brochure-led adventures are sure to turn your hike along the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail into a fun-filled adventure.
“We are so excited to have partnered with Nelson County’s Parks and Recreation and Tourism departments on this project. The Virginia Blue Ridge Railway TRACK Trail expands our network of trails within communities adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, helping to connect the kids of today, and decision makers of tomorrow, to the mountains and their special resources.” said Jason Urroz, Director of Kids in Parks.
Tommy Bruguiere, Nelson County West District Board of Supervisor said, “The first 30 miles of the Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway is Nelson County’s northern border. We are proud of the ongoing relationship that we have with the Parkway and are excited about this collaborative project, encouraging children to explore and enjoy outdoor activities”
