Grand Opening at Pierre Arboretum Oct 7

Monday, October 7, 2013 - 10:30pm

The Pierre Native Plant Arboretum TRACK Trail grand opening was held in conjunction with their fall open house on October 7th. People were invited to the dedication to take tours of the arboretum and heard comments from McCormick; the Director of the Parks Division for the Game, Fish and Parks Department Doug Hofer, City Commissioner Steve Harding and Lynn Spomer - Program Specialist for the Track Trails Program.

The TRACK Trail is a flat 0.3 mile loop that features a gazebo and several benches to relax and enjoy. The Arboretum covers 4 acres of the 24 acre nature area along the Missouri River. The area offers an example of plants, mammals and birds found in a mixed flood plain community. Look for deer, wild turkey, mourning doves, bald eagles, songbirds and pheasant.

The Arboretum is located east of the Izaak Walton Club House and south of the Pierre Sports Complex in Pierre, South Dakota.
