Taking your kids outside is fun, easy and free. Having a couple activities to do when you get out there is even better. The activities below are a fun and educational way to get kids actively engaged while exploring in nature.

 

Leaf Track Tracings

This arts and crafts style activity is a creative way for you to discover all the various types of leaves that can be found in the forest... or even in your back yard. All you need is a few pieces of paper, some pencils or crayons, a few different sized and shaped leaves, and a flat surface.

Did you know that every tree species has a specific style of bark? This Tree Bark Scavenger Hunt activity will help you learn how to easily identify some of the more common trees found in Western North Carolina.
