Take Me Outside

Kids and families joined the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and Discovery Place of Charlotte for an unforgettable weekend at Wildacres retreat during the 29th annual Blue Ridge Discovery Weekend.  The weekend was packed with adventure, discovery and most of all FUN as visitors were treated to guided hikes on various topics, evening owl and salamander prowls, and an ole’ fashion campfire with stories and smores.

 

Some of the highlights from the KIDS weekend included: the Do or Die survival hike for kids led by Kids in Parks’ Jason Urroz where they learned some tricks to survive in the woods like building an emergency shelter, collecting water and starting a fire; the Owl Prowl with Jesse from Grandfather Mountain who had a trio of barred owls caterwauling in the darkness; and the wild animals Keith from the Asheville Nature Center brought. Oh yeah…. And the Smores!
